Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs week) 

Job Summary:

Operate forklifts and cranes to load, unload and move materials.  Maintain material storage and adjacent areas.  Dump scrap and trash.  Maintain equipment as directed.

Essential Functions:

  1. Loads, unloads, moves, removes and installs materials, components and supplies.
  2. Follows orders and instructions received from dispatcher, Leadperson and supervisor.
  3. Maintains yard, storage and office areas with minimal direction from the dispatcher or Leadperson. 
  4. Dumps scrap and trash.
  5. Maintains forklifts, cranes and related equipment.
  6. Works safely at all times. 
  7. Adheres to all applicable safety policies. 
  8. Complies with all company policies, procedures and standards.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains and dispenses bulk and miscellaneous supply inventories.
  2. Records work time.
  3. Assists other dispatcher and yard workers when needed.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.
  5. Must accomplish training and serve as a Green Belt in support of EMPIRE's Six Sigma program.
  6. Works within and promote corporate values.

Additional Level Requirements

  • Material Handler II: 2 yrs experience forklifts and yard cranes.
  • Material Handler II: Ability to operate cranes, yard sweepers, yard tractors and other equipment necessary to support maintenance or service repair services.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must have interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with people and to efficiently meet customer needs.
  2. Must have the ability to start, stop and operate forklifts.
  3. Must have mechanical skills sufficient for routine vehicle maintenance.
  4. Must be able to lift, push, hold and position items up to 60 pounds total weight.
  5. Demonstrated technical skill competence.
  6. Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy.
  7. Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
  8. Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

Education and Experience:

  1. Previous experience operating forklifts and yard cranes.
  2. Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  3. Current driver’s license.
  4. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
