Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs week) 

Job Summary:

Interpret oil, fuel, and coolant samples to correctly identify abnormal wear conditions, abusive machine operation, and a variety of differences caused by machine application.  May be called upon to help with data entry and other back office support functions.  Work with Supervisor to ensure accurate and on-time interpretation and processing of Oil Samples are provided to internal and external customers for appropriate action. Help ensure that the ISO 9001:2008 standard is maintained and that excellent customer relationships are cultivated through continuous customer education and training. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide accurate, quality and on-time interpretation of oil sample analysis for internal and external customer action.
  2. Search for information about how CAT and Non-CAT machines are made, what the normal maintenance schedule is, what types of fluid should be used, and the known repair problems.
  3. Spot errors in the test data and mislabeled samples from the customer and work with data entry to correct.
  4. Judge overall wear as well as developing failures.
  5. Ensure that customer database with Internet availability is maintained
  6. Work safely at all times.  Adhere to all applicable safety policies.  Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide presentations to customer and company personnel on Oil Sample Technology and process as required.
  2. Travel to customer sites, branch stores, factory and seminars to promote the lab and stay abreast of technology on occasion.
  3. Merchandise the wear analysis program to internal and external customers.
  4. Assist lab technicians and lab assistant as needed with production and data entry items.
  5. Learn and help maintain ISO 9001:2008 standards and ensure yearly ISO certification.
  6. Help support and maintain all housekeeping and contamination control procedures are implemented and followed.
  7. Works within and promotes corporate values.

Additional Level Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Technical knowledge of the design, metallurgical makeup and operation of Caterpillar, competitive heavy equipment and other mechanical, oil lubricated machinery.
  2. Knowledge of Tribology as it pertains to friction, wear, and lubrication of interacting surfaces in motion.
  3. Knowledge of instrumentation and data processing procedures and ability to keep equipment updated to the latest standards.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively and present both oral and written reports.
  5. Able to cross-train other personnel and provide guidance on interpretations and/or data entry.
  6. Able to work overtime as needed.
  7. Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment.
  8. Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

Education and Experience:

  1. Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  2. Minimum four years fluid lab experience.
  3. Prior tribology and production lab experience.
  4. Certified completion of Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS) Services Interpretation Training.
  5. Experience using office productivity software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  6. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
