Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs week) 

Job Summary:

 

Troubleshoot, repair, recondition, and service Caterpillar and other Empire allied machines, systems and power train components. Troubleshoot; diagnose malfunctions and failures of machines electrical, hydraulic and power train components. Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause failures through the use of electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods. Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods in order to effectively explain equipment conditions, machine status and recommendations, to customers, associates and management. Preferred 2 years' experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  2. Maintain good customer relations and support for corporate marketing objectives.
  3. Repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
  4. Prepare service reports.
  5. Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
  6. Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition.
  7. Work safely at all times.  Adhere to all applicable safety policies.  Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Own and maintain required personal tools.
  2. Learn and use Empire, Caterpillar and allied product procedures and systems.
  3. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  4. Maintain current MSHA card if work area requires.
  5. Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers as assigned. 
  6. Work overtime as needed.
  7. Travel to remote locations as needed.
  8. Make warranty recommendations.
  9. Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job.
  10. Completion of eTRAIN test evaluation.
  11. Must accomplish training and serve as a Green Belt in support of EMPIRE's Six Sigma program.
  12. Work within and promote corporate values.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Communicate verbally and in writing, information, instructions and explanations to associates, customers and management regarding vehicle/component/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations, and repair processes.
  2. Basic computer and internet knowledge is required, as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools.
  3. Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
  4. Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
  6. Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems.
  7. Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment.
  8. Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements.

Education and Experience:

  1. Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  2. Current driver’s license.
  3. Minimum of 6 months related experience.
  4. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
